Importance of popcorn in India, the early maturing popcorn hybrid DMRHP1402 developed, released and notified form CVRC for NWPZ and CWZ cultivation can help in fulfilling the demand of popcorn in the city and mall. This is the India’s first early maturing hybrid which can be fit easily in any of the cropping system. Therefore, by growing this popcorn hybrid, farmers can increase their income as well as can help in fulfilling the required demands of popcorn in our country. This hybrid was released and notified in the year 2018 by CVRC. The synchrony of male and female flowering needs to be checked and required standardization of seed production techniques at the site of seed production. Cultivar and growing ecologies of DMRHP1402 for North Western Plain Zone (NWPZ) comprising states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh and Central Western Zone (CWZ) comprising states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Gujarat. Parentage: JP-8 × DPcl 117. Yield is 2.5-3.0 t/ha. Early (80-85days) matured Kharif season variety. DMRHP 1402 has shown Moderately Resistant (MR) to Charcoal rot in under artificial epiphytotic conditions at hot spots. DMRHP 1402 showed significant overall grain yield superiority in yield over the best check (VL Popcorn). Highest Popping percentage is reported (up to 98%) with a mean of 88.73% in AICRP trial. It has shown13.42 % superiority in % Poppiness to the best check VL Popcorn. The highest Popping expansion (PE) is reported up to 1:20 in AICRP trial with mean of 1: 15.66 in the proposed hybrid.
